Binondo Foodtrip: Waiying Fasfood

Binondo Foodtrip

It’s a shame that I’ve only gone to Binondo recently. My Grandmother in my mom’s side is pure Chinese and growing up she and my mom used to tell me stories about the place. My mom always wanted to bring me there but because of the horrible traffic we never really had the chance to go.

After my class last Saturday, my groupmates and I decided to eat out for dinner to celebrate the end of six exhausting Saturdays. My friend Aimee, decided to take us to Binondo Chinatown because obviously the food there is very affordable and delicious.

Binondo really reminded me of Hong Kong because of the narrow streets and smell (trust me, if you’ve been to Hong Kong, you’ll certainly remember this distinct smell). Since Chinese New Year just ended, the streets and establishments were decorated with lanterns.

My friend decided to bring us to Waiying Restaurant. The food was really affordable therefore I didn’t expect much. I’m a sucker for Chinese food, especially duck and dimsum therefore I’d still eat it even if it isn’t at par with the usual Gloria Maris, Luk foo, Peking Garden, and the like. I can live with Paotsin and eat it everyday! I’m that type of person. I’m really not choosy when it comes to dimsum but I know if it’s really delicious and not full of extenders.

So we ordered Beef wanton mami, duck with fried rice, wanton, siomai, and hakaw.

P150 for 12 pieces This was the winner!!! the wanton wrapper was so crispy and it was full of pork! The size was big for the price and it was paired well with the sweet and sour sauce.

Siomai P70 It wasn't extraordinary however it didn't taste like those sold in carts. It tasted legit Siomai plus the size was big!

This was 150-200 Pesos The soup was bland but that's just me. I like salty food. I loved that it had enough beef and wanton in it. It wasn't just full of soup and noodles. For the size, it can serve up to 3 people but because we were girls, it was able to feed us 5! haha

P80 I can eat this everyday. Among all types of Dimsum, this is my favorite and it did not disappoint me! It was full of shrimp and it was huge! Usually, restaurants outside sell this for 100 + but this was only 80 pesos and it was full of shrimp so I really liked it.

If I remember correctly this was P200 What I liked about this dish is that the duck was really tender and it wasn't too salty. However, i still prefer hoisin sauce over the what they put. The rice also was so good. It had egg and bits of asado.

I’d give this Restaurant a 4/5 because it’s affordable and exceeded my expectations.
